Sergio My First Couch Surfing Host from Madrid, 2009

If it wasn’t for my disastrous Au-Pair experience the summer of 2009, I wouldn’t have discovered Couch Surfing and wouldn’t have met my good friend Sergio. I stayed at his house for 10 nights! Hey, that’s enough time to start paying rent. LOLOLOLOLOL……. Universe/God bless him! According to my knowledge when landing in Madrid, I was going to stay at his house for two nights! Nope, I’m couch surfing alone with a cat!!

So here’s the story:

My first couch surfing host from the summer of 2009 sent me an email with a google map with the street in where I was to meet him when I landed in Madrid. Why does he want me to meet him at his friends house I was thinking. Doesn’t it make sense to go to his house, take a shower, relax, eat and from there go out??? It was early morning in Canada, about 5:00 a.m. EST and 11:00 a.m. in Madrid. I was exhausted by the time I reached the station Oporto, where I was to meet him. I took out my Blackberry and tried to navigate where I was to walk to. I asked people where north was so I could find where I was going on the long street and no one knew. They don’t navigate with North and South as we do in Toronto I thought. I was getting a bit cranky because all I wanted to do was sit down, eat, and just well SLEEP! Why would I be going to his friends house? So, I thought screw it, I’m going to use my cell phone( and get charged by my wireless company Rogers to whom I love paying large monthly bills to for my international data packages that I go over. lol) and I called. Sergio, please just meet me at the station. I don’t want to stay long at your friends house. I just want to sleep!

Sergio met me as I was on the side of the curb drinking juice and eating corn nuts. lol I was so hungry! lol It was sooooooooo nice to see him after two years! You know when you see someone you recognize and it feels so comforting? Yup, that’s how it was. Well, I guess after bonding for 10 days when I couch crashed at his house, that’s how it was going to be. lol

He told me I was staying here in Oporto at his friends house. His friend? Who is your friend? LOL His friend is a pilot and is flying around and his parents are in Scotland. Ohhhhh good times!! lol Maybe you can hook me up with your pilot friend. 😛 Wink, wimk….. I couldn’t sleep at Sergio’s house because his parents hadn’t yet left for their beach house. Wow, that was so nice of of friend and his pilot friend for agreeing. I could have found a hostel or hotel had I known.

As soon as we got to the house, I took one couch and he took the other and we crashed for 4 hours. Do you know what it means to sleep four hours? I was dead I tell ya!

After waking up, I wanted to take a shower.

This is what happened:
