Macedonia with Elaine Sarantakos

In the next set of upcoming videos I will be sharing Ancient Macedonia and the kingdom of Macedon in northern Greece. Alexander the Great and his father King Philip II were both born in Pella. It is through the archaeological findings of the ruins in Pella, and the museum of Pella & Vergina that we are able to explore more about Macedonian history. I will be sharing Macedonian architecture both Doric & Ionic columns. I will share Macedonian art in mosaics with the Greek Gods with written Greek inscriptions, including one that says Eleni, which is my name! ☺ I will be doing some role playing in the ancient agora, the market place. The videos that I make are light and entertaining, while at the same time adding historical facts. For example I joke around saying that I was Alexander the Great’s ex-girlfriend. I will be sharing the Pella Curse Tablet, Macedonian Kama Sutra art, and the many mosaics preserved in the museum. At the end of the videos, I will be sharing my experience at Vergina, which is where you can find the tomb of Philip II King of Macedon and the golden larnax. It should be told that no one is ever allowed to take videos of take pictures at Vergina. I will share my story, and the twist of fate in how I was able to.

Pella is really close to Thessaloniki, Greece’s second largest city being 39 km away. This makes it a great day trip in you are ever in the city. It costs 6 euro to enter the ruins in Pella. More to come!

Coming up Macedonia — 4000 years of Greek history & civilization!
