Greek Crisis with Elaine’s Suitcase

Arriving in Athens with Aegean Airlines

I’m in Athens!!! Woo hoo! Epitelous, which means finally in Greek! Standing at the baggage pick-up in Athens Venizelos Airport, I was very excited to grab my light suitcase. I was anticipating this moment landing in Athens for a long time. It had been 8 years since I was at this airport. ( I flew into SKG, Thessaloniki’s airport in Greece’s second largest city in 2009 when I visited for a week.) Although it seemed just yesterday in Athens, at the same time it seemed so long ago. I mean this was my home for three years while I studied Hotel Management at Alpine Center, a private Swiss Hotel school in Glyfada. I was in and out of ATH, and knew exactly how to navigate myself around.

My Light Heys Orange Suitcase

Since I was coming for a month, you would probably think I’d pack a big suitcase with everything I could possible wear from shoes, accessories & clothing. I did that kinda bringing 10 dresses, 3 skirts, 6 shirts, 14 pairs of underwear (recently bought ah hummmmm LOl ) & 2 pairs of shorts! That’s light right? I mean how much more do I possible need? I’m travelling from north to south to islands to even Cyprus. Screw a big suitcase! I want to be half naked! Hellas baby!!!! 😛 To my advantage my clothes are light in material, and all together came to 10 kilos. My intention which I wrote on my Facebook fan page was to pack light since I want to be half naked anyways. Wow, well let me tell you, I put that intention out to the Universe! In fact, I was so good at manifesting it, that my luggage didn’t show up in Athens and these last two days I have been half naked, LOL!

Waiting at the suitcase conveyor belt. Waiting…. Oh it’s coming…… Waiting…… People are collecting theirs…… waiting…. Where is my suitcase? …… Everyone left! :( I’m not going to lie, when I saw that my suitcase didn’t show up, I was sooooooo sad. I broke down in tears, as though it was the biggest thing going on in the world and it was trending on Twitter! Greek Crisis with Elaine’s suitcase!!!

I went to the desk and asked an Aegean Airlines Agent what happened with my suitcase. For some reason, it was in London. How did that happen? Also, why didn’t I have my baggage claim ticket that Air Canada should have given me?? She told me that it would come on a later flight from London. It was 4:00 a.m. My eyes were going to pop out of my head. She said they could send it on the next flight which would be in two days, as Aegean Airlines does not fly daily to Skyros. And that’s when I lost it. Of course, I was exhausted. No, Elaine even if you weren’t exhausted you’d probably cry. hahhahahahah That is soooo true!!!! I lost it. All my stuff was in my suitcase I told her. I tried not to cry, but my tears were rolling down like Niagara Falls. She told me that they would send it to my location where I’d be. I told her I would first be in Skyros. She asked for how long? Three days I told her. Ok and then? Then I will be in Skopelos for 3 days. And then? Then Pelion for 2 days. She looked at me. I explained with tears ( LOL), I am here to promote Greece. I want to show people how even though Greece is in a financial crisis, it’s not in a crisis when it comes to everything else. She looked at me and I guess felt bad and gave me voucher for 40 euro to buy anything I needed to pass the days. Then, I started to cry even more. I was so grateful, and appreciated it so much. I am such a sap I know! LOL I know it’s not much, but I was so appreciative. ( It bought me a dress later in Skyros and paid for my Brazilian cut bikini bottoms hey heyyyyyyy! :P)

So, I took the voucher thanking her and then went upstairs to connect with internet and make a you tube video! Sure! Why not? What normal person in their right mind would make a you tube video at 4:30 a.m in Greece? Oh, I know a person…. ME!! LOL

Elaine's New Aegean Airlines Bikini!

So here it is. As you can see below, I was really up. Like I said, this should have been trending on Twitter!!

The video was uploaded. Chatted with some friends and family to tell them what happened online. All of a sudden, I hear on the announcements ” SARANTAKOS, Boarding”!!! Ahhhhhhhhhh, I I grabbed my Macbook, backpack and started running! Run Forest Run!!!!! I made it on the flight as the last one. Well done Elaine! Then I realized, I just made it on time to take the GO bus to Toronto’s YYZ airport. I realized in the Taxi that I left my sunglasses on my desk, and bought a pair of Gucci’s at Duty Free. I lost my luggage. I almost missed my flight. Ha ha ha Elaine you are on a roll girl!!!

The flight to Skyros was 35 minutes from Athens. I step out of the airplane, and walked down the steps in complete awe as I realized I AM IN GREECE! There is no place I’d rather be.
